This remarkable desk lamp has been handcrafted from an original early 20th-century L.C. Smith & Bros. typewriter, dating to around 1912. Once a tool of industry and correspondence, it has been thoughtfully reimagined into a bold steampunk-inspired statement piece, blending mechanical heritage with warm, atmospheric lighting.
The original black metal body has been carefully preserved, allowing its authentic patina and timeworn character to tell a story of over a century past. Rising from the machine is a substantial vintage-style Edison LED bulb with a striking spiral filament, mounted in an antique brass style lamp holder that complements the industrial aesthetic beautifully.
When illuminated, the bulb casts a rich, warm glow — perfect for a desk, study, studio, or cosy reading corner. The LED technology provides modern efficiency while maintaining that nostalgic Edison ambience, using significantly less energy and offering an impressive lifespan.
Finished with a brown braided fabric cable and inline switch, this piece stays true to its vintage roots while remaining practical for everyday use.
All electrical components have been professionally fitted and tested for safety, and the lamp comes complete with a UK 3amp plug.
As with all genuine antiques, the typewriter bears signs of age and use consistent with its history — subtle marks and wear that enhance its authenticity and individuality. No two pieces are ever the same.
